Mews includes core housekeeping in the PMS: room statuses, the Mews app for staff and same-day room assignment, with a fuller suite powered by Flexkeeping on its Pro plan. A dedicated app earns its place when you need next-day planning, workload balancing, maintenance and guest requests in one flow, a multilingual team or independence from the PMS.

In short
• Mews tracks spaces as Clean, Dirty, Inspected, Out of order or Out of service, and housekeepers work from the general Mews app with same-day assignment. • Mews acquired Flexkeeping in September 2025; its pricing page lists the Flexkeeping-powered suite as included on Pro and an add-on on Core, with no published prices. • Hotels outgrow native housekeeping when they need next-day planning, workload balancing, maintenance and guest requests in one flow, or a multilingual team. • Buying housekeeping from your PMS vendor means one supplier; an independent app keeps housekeeping separate if you change or mix PMS platforms. • Volkshotel in Amsterdam, 196 rooms and 33 nationalities, runs Sweeply on top of Mews and stopped checking all 196 rooms manually for stayover cleans.
Mews covers the basics of housekeeping inside the PMS: room status, a mobile view for staff and same-day room assignment. A dedicated housekeeping app earns its place when you need to plan ahead, balance workloads, run maintenance and guest requests in the same flow, or brief a team that does not share a language. This article sets out what Mews includes today, where hotels tend to outgrow it, and how to decide for your property.
A disclosure before we start: Sweeply is a dedicated housekeeping and operations app that integrates with Mews, so we have a view. Every claim about Mews below comes from Mews’ own help centre, pricing page, release notes or community, and we link the sources so you can check them.
What housekeeping features does Mews include?
Mews Operations tracks each space as Clean, Dirty, Inspected, Out of order or Out of service, and a space has to be Inspected before a guest can check in to it (Mews help centre). Housekeepers work from the general Mews app rather than a separate housekeeping app. Its Spaces tab lets them change status, update several rooms at once and filter to the rooms assigned to them, and since 2024 supervisors can also assign spaces from the app.
Two details matter for planning. Each space has one assignee, and assignments apply to the current day. Hoteliers in the Mews community describe evening teams planning the next day on paper for that reason, and a request for room credits to balance workloads has been open on the Mews feedback board since 2021.
Does Mews charge separately for housekeeping?
It depends on the plan. The Mews pricing page lists Pro, Core and Enterprise plans. Pro includes what Mews calls a full housekeeping and maintenance suite powered by Flexkeeping, and on Core the suite is listed as an add-on. Mews does not publish prices, so ask your account manager what your plan includes and what the add-on costs at your room count.
The Flexkeeping part is recent. Mews acquired Flexkeeping in September 2025. So when you compare “Mews housekeeping” with a dedicated app, you are usually comparing three options: the native space statuses in Mews, Flexkeeping by Mews, and an independent app.
Mews native, Flexkeeping by Mews or an independent app?
Mews native housekeeping | Flexkeeping by Mews | Independent app (Sweeply as the example) | |
|---|---|---|---|
Who builds it | Mews | Mews, since the 2025 acquisition | An independent vendor |
Room status | Clean, Dirty, Inspected, Out of order, Out of service | Connected natively to Mews | Synced with Mews through the Mews Marketplace |
Room assignment | Same day, one assignee per space | Room allocation in the Flexkeeping app | Workload-based auto-assignment using room credits |
Maintenance and guest requests | Out of order and out of service statuses | Part of the housekeeping and maintenance suite | Maintenance with photo fault reports, guest requests and AI agents in one app |
Languages | Not documented for housekeeping | Voice-to-task with automatic translation | 30 languages, including translation of free text written by colleagues |
If you change PMS | Stays with Mews | Owned by Mews | Connects to 20+ PMS platforms |
Pricing | Part of the PMS subscription | Included on Pro, add-on on Core, prices not published | Per sellable room per month; corridors and back of house are free |

When is native Mews housekeeping enough?
For many properties it is. If you run one property, assign rooms the same morning, have a team that shares a working language and handle maintenance through a short list of out-of-order rooms, the native statuses do the job. You avoid another login, another contract and another integration. Start there, and add a tool only when a specific problem shows up.
Signs you have outgrown it
Tomorrow’s plan lives on paper because assignments only cover the current day.
Supervisors balance workloads in their heads, because a checkout suite and a stayover single each count as one room.
Maintenance faults arrive by phone or WhatsApp, and nobody can see whether they were fixed.
Guest requests pass through reception before they reach the floor.
Your team speaks many languages, and free-text notes get lost along the way.
You run several properties and want one way of working across all of them, possibly on more than one PMS.
Two or more of these usually means the time spent working around the PMS is costing more than a dedicated tool would.
Is a Mews-owned housekeeping tool a lock-in?
Not in a bad sense, but it is a choice worth making on purpose. Buying housekeeping from your PMS vendor gives you one supplier, one support line and an integration the same company maintains. The trade-off is that your housekeeping data, processes and staff training are tied to the PMS. If you might change PMS in the next few years, run more than one PMS across a group, or want to choose housekeeping on its own merits, an independent app keeps that decision separate.
Mews supports both routes. Its help centre lists the top housekeeping integrations by region, including Flexkeeping, Optii and Alice globally, and Sweeply, Roomchecking and hotelkit among the options in the UK, Ireland and Benelux.
What it looks like in practice: Volkshotel Amsterdam
Volkshotel has 196 rooms and more than 150 housekeeping staff from 33 nationalities. When the hotel moved to Mews, its previous task tool was no longer compatible, and Housekeeping Manager Marion Le Tiec chose Sweeply on top of Mews for its ease of use and visual room status. Stayover cleaning requests used to mean physically checking all 196 rooms. Within four months the team had faster repairs, smoother onboarding and no more manual room checks for stayovers.
“We chose Sweeply for its ease of use, as well as the visual aspect, which helps to make room status clear for everyone, regardless of language barrier.” Marion Le Tiec, Housekeeping Manager, Volkshotel

How to decide in one afternoon
List the five housekeeping problems that cost your team the most time this month.
Test each one against native Mews first and cross off the ones it already solves.
For what is left, ask Mews for the Flexkeeping price on your plan and ask one independent vendor for a quote.
Pilot the winner on one property with your live PMS for at least two weeks before you commit a group.
Where this comparison does not apply
We sell one of the options compared here, so read the independent app column as an interested view. Mews ships changes often, and Flexkeeping’s roadmap inside Mews will close some of the gaps described above. Every Mews claim in this article reflects Mews’ public pages as of October 2026. And if your property runs smoothly on native statuses today, the right answer is to keep it that way.

Conclusion
Native Mews housekeeping is a solid default for simple, single-property operations. Once you need to plan ahead, balance effort rather than room count, or run maintenance and guest requests in the same flow, choose deliberately between Flexkeeping by Mews and an independent app, and let a one-property pilot on your live PMS settle it.
Frequently asked questions
Is Mews good for coordinating housekeeping across a hotel group?
Mews handles room status and same-day assignment well within each property. Groups that want next-day planning, workload balancing, one way of working across properties or the option to run more than one PMS typically add Flexkeeping by Mews or an independent housekeeping app through the Mews Marketplace.
Does Mews charge separately for housekeeping?
According to the Mews pricing page, the Pro plan includes a housekeeping and maintenance suite powered by Flexkeeping, while on the Core plan it is an add-on. Mews does not publish prices, so confirm with your account manager.
Does Mews have a housekeeping mobile app?
Housekeepers use the general Mews app, where the Spaces tab lets them update room status, filter to their assigned rooms and, since 2024, assign spaces. Flexkeeping, which Mews acquired in 2025, has its own mobile app.
How does Mews housekeeping compare to a standalone housekeeping app?
Native Mews covers room status and same-day assignment. A standalone app such as Sweeply adds workload-based auto-assignment with room credits, maintenance with photo fault reports, guest requests, translation of free text across 20+ languages and independence from the PMS.
Which housekeeping apps integrate with Mews?
The Mews help centre lists Flexkeeping, Optii and Alice as global housekeeping integrations, and regional options including Sweeply, Roomchecking, hotelkit, Maitre, Unifocus and Breezeway.
